Is IAAH Canadian, and is it accredited?

Additionally, IAAH’s Massage Therapy Diploma Program has received Preliminary Accreditation by the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation (CMTCA). And, our Acupuncture Practitioner Diploma Program ensures students meet the national competency standards for the Pan-Canadian examinations (to allow you to become a Registered Acupuncturist [R.Ac.]).

How do I become a massage therapist?
Becoming a massage therapist in Canada requires several key steps.
First, you must research the specific requirements in your province or territory, as regulations vary. Next, you must complete a massage therapy program at an accredited college.
After graduating, you must pass a national certification exam provided by a recognized organization. This will enable you to register with your province or territory’s regulatory body. You may also be required to continue your education and obtain liability insurance to maintain your status as a licensed/registered massage therapist.
Is massage therapy hard to learn?
The difficulty varies based on one’s personal aptitude, dedication, and the specific type of massage therapy you want to practice.
To become a licensed/registered massage therapist, you need to complete a formal massage therapy program covering anatomy, physiology, massage techniques, and ethics. While these studies may pose challenges, most individuals can manage with commitment and effort. Developing practical skills, such as proper techniques and pressure, requires practice and a good sense of touch. If you choose to specialize, that additional training can add another layer of difficulty, but one that can be managed with good study habits.
In addition to the extensive scientific knowledge that is required, you need to know how to read and connect with your clients. Soft skills like communication, professionalism, and creating a comfortable client experience are essential for success in the field. Massage therapy is the unique intersection of scientific understanding and human interaction.
Overall, while learning massage therapy may present challenges, it’s a collection of skills that can be acquired with dedication, practice, and the right training program. That makes it accessible to those who are passionate about helping people through natural methods of healing.
Is massage therapy a good career choice?
As with most career choices, the answer depends on you and your motivation and interests.
Like many healthcare-related fields, massage therapy can be a fulfilling path if you have a genuine passion for promoting wellness and are willing to invest in formal training and licensing. The profession requires physical stamina, communication skills, and the ability to build a client base, as well as potential entrepreneurial skills if you aim to run your own practice. Your job satisfaction often stems from the direct impact you make on your clients’ well-being.
A successful career in massage therapy hinges on personal commitment, continuous education, and adherence to legal and ethical standards. It’s vital to weigh your own interests, physical capabilities, and long-term goals to determine if this profession aligns with your aspirations. If you have a deep passion for healing and wellness, are ready for the rigours of training, and are committed to the art, science, and business aspects of massage therapy, it can indeed be a rewarding career.
Is massage therapy an in-demand profession?
Overall, the demand for massage therapy has risen due to growing awareness of its therapeutic benefits for stress reduction, pain management, and overall well-being.
Healthcare integration, an aging population, the popularity of sports and fitness, and the spa and relaxation industry all contribute to its continued demand.
While demand and acceptance vary by city and region, the Government of Canada’s Job Bank rates the overall job prospects for Ontario as Good (4 out of 5 stars) over the next three years. And, it predicts that there will be a moderate risk of a labour shortage for the profession on a national level over the next 10 years (2024-2033).
If you’re considering a career in massage therapy, research your local market and regulations to assess the specific demand and opportunities. Staying updated with industry trends and expanding your skills in specialized areas of massage therapy can help you stand out and meet the evolving needs of clients, making you more competitive in this field.
How do I become an acupuncture practitioner?
To practice as an acupuncturist in Ontario, you must meet the registration requirements spelled out in Ontario Regulation 27/13, Registration Regulation <link: https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/130027>. This includes completing a program of study that: ensures the entry-level/national competencies defined by the CTCMPAO (College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario), covers at least three years of full-time study (or the equivalent), and features at least 45 weeks and 500 hours of direct patient contact. (IAAH’s Acupuncture Practitioner Diploma Program meets and exceeds all of these standards.)
After graduating, you must take the Safety and Jurisprudence tests and then pass the Pan-Canadian Examinations. This will allow you to claim the title of Registered Acupuncturist (R. Ac) and give you the ability to practice in Ontario. You may also be required to continue your education and obtain liability insurance to maintain your status.
Is acupuncture practitioner training difficult?
We believe in keeping you connected with your progress. You’ll receive regular feedback from instructors, who will be in touch throughout your program to offer guidance, monitor your progress, and help you stay on track. Your test results are updated automatically, and you can view a detailed breakdown of your grades at any time through our online Testing Centre.

Where can I learn to become an acupuncturist?
In Ontario, you can pursue training through a school or program that meets the entry-level occupational competencies <link: https://www.ctcmpao.on.ca/resources/forms-and-documents/Entry_Level_Occupational_Competencies_for_the_TCM_Practice_2020.pdf> defined by CARB-TCMPA (Canadian Alliance of Regulatory Bodies for Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists).
The CTCMPAO (College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario), the governing body in Ontario, also provides two documents that are useful in choosing a suitable program and school:
(a) The Education Equivalency Guideline <link: https://www.ctcmpao.on.ca/resources/forms-and-documents/Education%20Equivalency%20Guideline_2020_07_09.pdf>; and
(b) Tips for Choosing a School <link: https://www.ctcmpao.on.ca/applicant/pan-canadian/HowToChooseTCMSchoolOntario_2018-10-05.pdf>.
IAAH offers an 83-week Acupuncture Practitioner Diploma Program. Our training features 528 clinical hours (more than CARB-TCMPA’s requirement) to ensure students are able to treat a diverse array of clients and conditions. This allows them to develop their skills and abilities, and helps ensure they can obtain suitable positions after graduation. (It’s why the vast majority of our students obtain relevant jobs within 12 months after graduation.)
Plus, IAAH’s program provides an additional 42 hours of study dedicated to exam and registration preparation, ensuring you’ll be ready to take on the Pan-Canadian examinations with ease.
